Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in the Brazilian Judiciary has intensified in response to the growing demand for efficiency and procedural speed. However, this digital transformation raises questions about the suitability and ethical and technical challenges of applying AI in judicial decisions. To this end, it is essential to map this technology's benefits and challenges. Thus, the objective of this work was to understand the current state of the implementation of AI in the Brazilian Judiciary, assessing its potential benefits and the challenges that arise. A systematic literature review was carried out as a methodology for this mapping. The Scopus, Scielo, BDTD, and Web of Science databases were used, focusing on publications from 2019 onwards, when the use of AI in the Brazilian Judiciary began to gain greater relevance. Out of 203 initial records, we selected 44 publications for analysis. As a result, the main benefits identified are improved access to information, procedural efficiency, and sustainability. Among the challenges encountered are the lack of transparency related to AI algorithms, organizational change, security, and ethics. The study concludes that AI has transformative potential for the Brazilian Judiciary, but its implementation must be carefully planned to mitigate risks. Adopting public policies that balance the benefits of technology with the preservation of legal principles is essential to ensure that AI contributes positively to justice in Brazil.
